Casa Zanabar - Where tropical dreams come to die

I woke up to a strange electrical burning smell at 4:30 on Saturday and noticed that the lights outside my room were all out. Now normally I wouldn't think too much of the light situation as the power goes out consistently down here. However, I noticed that the fans in my room were still working.
A little back story is now in order as to why I might be telling you all this story. About a month and a half ago my sister and Nate were robbed in the middle of the night at Casa Zanzabar while they were sleeping. Now we are all on edge a little bit even though the house gets locked down like Fort Knox every night.
Ok back to the story:
So I was laying in bed thinking that the thieves were back to take the rest of our stuff and that they might just murder us all as well (histrionics, I know but I was half asleep and scared). I was laying in bed trying to figure out if I could hear any of these murderous heathens out in the living room, and at the same time trying to figure out how to make my brother in law wake up so he could come down and save my ass. I pick up my mobile and call him and as the phone is ringing I hear footsteps running up and down the stair. I proceed to hide under my sheet and surmise that the intruders had heard the phone, knew it was me calling and were running down to snuff me out before finishing the rob job.
As I am freaking out under my thin sheet my sister comes into my followed by Nate with a 4' lead pipe in one hand and a machete in the other. We all venture out into the living room and notice that a bunch of the lights are flickering and that others are bright enough to burn a person's retinas. We figure out that there is some sort of power surge so proceed to turn off all lights and unplug all electronics.
Skip to the present:
It's now the 9th and we are still without power, with no real reassuring solution in sight. It was fun the first night, sort of a new adventure, but this is getting ridiculous.
So there you have it folks yet another little story from down south involving unplanned events and a lead pipe.
