Nadia very much wanted to, nay insisted, that we visit the Island of Coiba off of the Pacific coast of Panama. So for our second stop on our whirlwind trip through Panama was in the little sleepy, and I mean sleepy, surf town of Santa Catalina.
We stayed at Rolo's a long time local surf hostel and met some 'interesting' characters, including Bill, Nadia's stray surfer pet from Rhode Island, and Beppe, Nadia's stray pet from Italy. (Beppe has a recurring role in this whole saga, stay tuned.)
Here is a photo of Rolo's from down by the scuba shop. Where we prepared for our adventure out to Isla Coiba. Isla Coiba is a national park about 50 miles off the coast. It used to house a penal colony but now just houses a few park rangers, some howler monkeys, a bunch of iguanas and this guy...
Tito as the local rangers have named him is a 15 foot salt water crock that inhabits the nearby bay. He was beautiful so very beautiful.
This poor guy lost a leg so who knows what happened to him but he was so pretty I had to include him in the blog.
Look at this place. How would you like to be a prisoner on this gorgeous island.
A shot of some outlying island from the look out point.
Nads on the boat. This is her first day in the real sun and she's already glowing.
Our scuba boat with a few British folk in the foreground.
Up next the bus travel day from hell. I know I exaggerate a lot, but I am not lying about this folks.
